Learning the Top On-Page SEO factors give you broad vision to how can we increase the normal traffic to your website.
Before reading this article please read the first part of my article increasing website traffic (which includes a definition of On-Page SEO factors).
SEO looks like a big and heavy locked door with many locks, some people try to open it with only one or two keys, this will not be effective enough unless you own your full set of keys.
As i wrote in another article that there are off-page and on-page SEO factors which we must take care of if we want to raise the organic traffic.
In this post i will highlight the top on-page SEO factors (and will talk about off-page factors in another article) which i divided them into these 4 parts:
Search engines (especially Google) develops continuously new ways to discover the good content and give it more points and more capability to be shown in SERPs(search engine results pages), but what Good Contents means exactly?
It means that it is:
a. High Quality Content:
so it offers useful information which increases the visitor experience, the more quality your content has the more interest will get from visitors.
How can you do that ?
The high quality content principle relates to many things including the information itself and the way of representing it, Choose a clear and beautiful fonts for your posts, insert some nice related photos, make related videos, try to attract the visitors as much as you can to make them spending more time with your website.
b. Original Content:
Lots of websites have a copy-paste content which does not give any new information to the visitors, in this case the search engines will consider this as a duplicate-content which will negatively affects the SEO, so even these websites have lots of articles (big contents) it will not increase SEO and will not get good rank.
The question is: When search engines consider the content as original one?
In general you must have at least 50% of your posts contents different from any other content to can guarantee that it will not be counted as duplicate-content, some experts say that it is enough to have 25% original content but for me i recommend that this percentage is exceeding 50%.
How can you do that ?
I recommend that you read a lot of any article you want to write about it, the key of being a successful author is to be a master in the field you write in.
Don´t be lazy! even if you can´t be master in all article you want to write about, avoid copying another people´s posts and try to re-write their posts in your way, so no copy-paste at all.
c. Relevant Content:
The content must relate to the topic of the article so it should contains relevant words and phrases (i will talk about this point later).
2. Main Keyword/phrase:
Keywords is a big topic that we can talk about hours and hours.
When you create your page it is recommended that you take care about these points which are all related to keyword/phrase factor:
a. First part of your page/post:
Include your main keyword/phrase (which is called: Focus keyword/phrase) in your first 50 words of your page as search engines will focus on this part of your page when they index your website.
b. Keyword Density:
In old days, the number of keyword/phrase(keyword density) was so important to make your content more relevant.
This principle has changed and become not important any more as search engines now are more smarter and they focus more on the content quality.
However i recommend that the keyword density is not less than 1% and not more than 4% (if it was higher you may look like scammer to the search engines so you will be penalised).
c. URL of the page:
Include your main keyword/phrase in your URL of the page.
d. Page Title:
Page title will be shown as the clickable heading when the search engine lists the relevant websites to the visitors.
Include your main keyword/phrase in the page title which will give the search engines clear signal about your page content.
The page title length should be more than 40 character(and it can´t be more than 70 character).
e. Image Alt:
Include your main keyword/phrase in all your page images Alt text .
a. H1 Tag:
when indexing, H1 tags are the first things that search engine looks at, they are like the newspaper headlines.
Don´t neglect them as they are good clue of your page subject, i recommend strongly that your H1 tag includes your main keyword all the time, this will make your page much relevant.
b. H2 Tag:
Try to include the subheadings (h2 and h3) with main keyword/phrase.
4. Internal Links:
It is important to know that search engines analyse the text link which are being in your pages and see if the page which you are linking to is relevant to your page subject or not.
So when the text link is called “playing Golf” so they assume that the target page which this link leads to is talking about playing golf.
What this means?
a. Avoid using text links like: “Home” or “Home Page” and use your main keyword/phrase instead so you optimise your page rather than optimise your Home page!
b. Avoid using text link like: “Press Here” or “Click This” for the internal links and start using relative text for the text links.
